GOTS certified suppliers in the United States
The GOTS register is public and searchable, and almost nobody reads it properly. This explains what a scope certificate actually proves, how to read a record, and where the traps are — with selected US companies linked to their own register entries.
This page does not reproduce the GOTS database. Every company below links to its record in the register, which is maintained by Global Standard gGmbH and the approved certification bodies that issue the certificates.
What the certificate proves
Certified is not a property of a company
A GOTS scope certificate is issued to an operation for specified product categories and a specified field of operation. It is not a badge the company wears across everything it sells. A supplier can hold a valid certificate and still offer you goods that fall entirely outside its scope — and be telling the truth when it says it is GOTS certified.
What GOTS verifies is organic fiber content, chemical inputs, wastewater treatment, human rights criteria and traceability. What it does not verify is carbon footprint or durability. Those are the site’s standards comparison in one line: the mark is evidence for some claims and silent on others.
Reading a record
Six fields, and what each one is hiding
Worked from the register entry for 1888 Mills LLC, a trading operation in Griffin, Georgia.
- Certification number
- GOTS-19261
- The license itself. This is what you quote when you ask a certification body to confirm a supplier.
- Certification body
- Control Union Services SAC, Peru
- Who issued it. GOTS does not audit directly — approved bodies do, and corrections go to them, not to GOTS.
- Certificate expiry date
- 2027-05-27
- The field almost nobody checks. A certificate past this date proves nothing, and suppliers send out expired PDFs constantly.
- Field of operation
- Trading
- Trading is not manufacturing. A trader’s certificate covers handling certified goods, not making them.
- Product category
- Home textiles
- Scope. Anything outside the listed categories is not covered by this certificate, whatever the supplier says.
- Product detail
- Bed linen (PD0015) — cotton, organic, min 100% / max 100%
- Fiber composition per product type. This is where “made with organic cotton” either holds up or doesn’t.

Traps
Three ways this goes wrong
- An expired certificate still looks like a certificate. Suppliers circulate PDFs long after expiry, and the document itself gives no warning. The expiry date in the register is the only reliable check.
- Absence is not evidence. GOTS states that certification bodies are still populating the current repository. A company missing from the register may simply not have been uploaded yet. Ask for the certificate number and confirm with the issuing body.
- Withdrawal is not expiry. A certificate can be withdrawn before its expiry date. A record checked six months ago is not a record checked today, which is why every entry on this site carries the date it was verified.
Questions
- How do I check whether a supplier is really GOTS certified?
- Search the GOTS certified suppliers database by company name or country, open the record, and check three things: the certificate expiry date, the field of operation, and the product categories. A certificate that has expired, or that covers a different product category than the one you are buying, does not support your claim.
- How many US companies hold a GOTS certificate?
- The GOTS register listed 166 certified entities in the United States when this page was verified on 14 September 2026, out of 12,320 worldwide. The number moves as certificates are issued, renewed and withdrawn.
- Does a GOTS certificate mean the whole company is certified?
- No. A scope certificate covers specified product categories and a specified field of operation — trading, manufacturing, and so on. Products outside that scope are not certified, even though the company holds a valid certificate.
- What is the difference between a trader and a manufacturer on the GOTS register?
- The field of operation says which. A trader handles certified goods but does not make them, so its certificate says nothing about the conditions in which the goods were produced. If your claim is about manufacturing, a trader’s certificate does not substantiate it.
- Why can’t I find a supplier I know is certified?
- GOTS notes that certification bodies are still populating its current repository. Absence from the register is not proof that a company is uncertified — ask the supplier for its certificate number and confirm it with the issuing certification body directly.
Method
Company names, product categories and record identifiers were read from the GOTS Certified Suppliers Database on 14 September 2026, which listed 166 entities in the United States and 12,320 worldwide. The register is published and maintained by Global Standard gGmbH; certificate data is supplied and corrected by the approved certification bodies that issue the certificates. This page links to that register rather than copying it, and neither Global Standard gGmbH nor any certification body is affiliated with this site or endorses it. Certificates change — check the record before relying on it.
